Dye

This summer, I'm going to tie, scrunch, bleach and dip dye everything. T-shirts, skirts, scarves, tights, leggings, tote bags, pillows, temptingly white puppies... No surface will be safe from my crazed, psychedelia craving hands.

And this is why:

The Queen's Birthday

Necklaces by Wiksten

Happy Friday, Millionaires! I hope those of you who reside in the eastern-states of Australia have all kinds of mangnificence planned for your long weekend. Inspired by some beautiful peices made by various crafty ladies, I plan to put my collection of broken jewelry and embroidery threads to smart use and make me some pretty laces for my neck. I also plan to shop for treasures at the second-hand clothes sale and St Ninian's church in Lyneham, see the Banksy movie at the National Gallery of Australia and make delicous gnocci. I live for long weekends...

I love him but he'd make a terrible boyfriend: men in skirts

I love Marc Jacobs but...

Good afternoon distinguished guests.

Ahh, procrastination. I've eaten some toast, drank some tea, cleaned my room, visited my favourite blogs, face-stalked my crushes and now here we are.

This is the next post in a series of utter genius. You may recall my past brilliance here. However, today I'm going to be a little more specific...

The current fashion trend causing controversy perfectly reflects why 'I love him but he'd make a terrible boyfriend'. Men in skirts. Talk about having some serious balls! I LOVE them. But fuck me, I could never date one.

Melbourne Street Fashion
PS- this man is actually wearing pants (!). This however, does not change the fact he is HOT, but untouchable.

No, give me this picture of perfection any day. He's such a dream boat! I can tell he'd make a fantastic boyfriend on his bow tie/boater combination alone. I applaud you while swooning young man!

What are your takes on this trend? Love them? Hate them? Could you date them?

Alexander McQueen

As I'm sure you all have heard, Lee Alexander McQueen died last night. I plan to wear something a little outrageous tonight as a way of commemorating him. Maybe you should do the same.

The 90s are back and apparently so am I

You know how sometimes you have conversations with your friends about how awful something is and then you go and do that exact thing?

Well, I was having a conversation the other day with my friend Sophie about how tragic it is that the 90s are back in fashion again. Terrible, terrible I said, whilst secretly knowing that I had already bought a pair of clogs. Oh yes, you read that right - clogs. I know, I know what is wrong with me? Trust me, I've heard it all before from Garance. But I caved.

They are really great though...

If you want to love clogs too (come on!) you can get your very own from Swedish Hasbeens (like mine) or Funkis do nice ones as well. And if you one of the more affluent members of our readership (not sure if that exists) Celine and Chanel could be for you.

10 pretty great things

1. Brian Ferry's amazing photographs of London on his blog the blue hour

2. Making lengthy lists of potential new years resolutions and marvelling at how virtuous I could be, if I really wanted to (very high on that list: blog more regularly).

3. Cucumber and orange juice. So refreshing. Soon I'll be making it from my own home grown cucumbers!

4. This cooler weather. Right now I'm drinking tea (hot tea!) and tomorrow I'm going to bake these pear and chocolate cup cakes.

5. Ladies who wear huge flowers in their hair. Especially hydrangeas. Number 12 on my new years resolutions list: wear more flowers in hair (image Emma Fremantle by via all the mountains)

6. Watching Seinfeld again. Classic.

7. The free DIYs and knitting patterns on Pickles. Especially this pom pom wreath. Totally all-year-round worthy.

8. Howl's Moving Castle. I'd forgotten how brilliantly enchanting it is.

9. Geraniums. I really do love them. They remind me of old ladies, Paris and the seventies combined (photo by our ultra-talented friend Nathan).

10. The Social Studio. We stumbled across this shop/space in Collingwood on our recent Melbourne trip. Young refugees recycle excess materials from the manufacturing industry and turn them in to unique, sometimes bizarre pieces of fashion. It's so inspiring when people manage turn our rampant consumerism into something empowering and socially and environmentally beneficial.

Christmas Twist List

Merry Christmas millionaires!

This is my Christmas with a twist wish list.

Top of my Christmas wish list this year? This great BFF charm necklace from In God We Trust (available on Bona Drag). BFF, but not exactly as you expect it. Plus, you get to give and receive.

Who better to do a twisted version on the 12 days of Christmas than David Lynch. If you've seen Twin Peaks than this will be great for you. If you haven't...well, you'll probably be really confused.

Found here via here

So the twist with this last one is that it has nothing to do with Christmas really, but see it as a hilarious gift from me to you. Merry Christmas!

Props for this one go to my sis. Because she is awesome.

Rare but inexpensive

On Friday I went on a rare but expensive magazine splurge. I was about to go on a rare but expensive weekend getaway splurge, and figured that since I was going swimming, I might as well get well wet. And wet I got. In one of my purchases - the very pretty Fallen - I discovered an article about two Australian peeps who make artisan, semi uni-sex leather shoes and boots and sell them for apparently inexpensive prices (although I'm not sure how exactly such a lush magazine defines inexpensive. Any bids?)

They are called Illex Kinni, and they make me want to frolic in a mossy pine forrest wearing a flawless pair of black leather shoes.

Illex Kinni shoes can be found at Fat4 stores in Melbourne. Please save some for us poor isolated Canberra girls!

Post script: You can read about my rare but expensive weekend getaway splurge over at my new blog - Quincey.

Colours in Pictures

Art on left by Robjoe

Coral and Pale Blue

On Saturday in an unusually sartorial moment I talked briefly about the bright, contrasting colours I plan to adorne my body with this summer. Then yesterday when I was too exhausted from staying up till 5am the night before tearing aluminium foil of the walls of a certian Canberra bar to do anything much else, I decided to make colour palates for my summer wardrobe using images from FFFFOUND.

Generally, my fashion visions never become anything near reality, but this was a suprisingly fun and inspiring (if time consuming) exercise.

Summer Snail Mail

There are few materialistic joys greater in this world than receiving a much anticipated brown paper package tied up with string in the mail. The other day, I was woken up when the boy dropped one such package on my head. It was like Christmas.

The package contained two tops and a skirt I bought from the very amazing Moicun store. They're all made out of hippie products like soy and bamboo and organic cotton, and feel wonderful. They were also heavily discounted, which feels even more wonderful.

Only the skirt is too small, which feels less than wonderful. But I'm determined to make it work, even if it means spending an exessive amount at a tailor. I'm totally invisioning it with a bright yellow tank top. I'm totally going to get into bright contrasty colours this summer: vivid coral and pale blue, bright orange and teal, neon green and plum.

Wierd to think that Summer is only a month and a half away. This Spring really has been pitiful. I feel as if I've been robbed of my favourite season. ROBBED!

A beautiful take on Asian horror

This last weekend some of my friends and i spent a night eating pizza, drinking beer and watching Asian horror films. It was tits. Finding this amazing shoot styled by Hayley Hughes (of Fashion Hayley fame) inspired by this very genre (Ju-on inspired to be precise) was icing on the freak-ing (heh, get it?) cake.

This editorial leaves me speechless. To me it is both creepy and beautiful. I am torn between wanting to imitate Grudge like looks in the mirror, and wanting to hide under my doona covers avoiding anything with a reflective surface on my way there.

These are some of my favourite shots from the editorial. You can check out more here at Hayley's profile. I'm a fan.

Mm, goosebumps.
