A birthday

It's my birthday on Saturday. I turn 24. Something about that number terrifies me in a way that no other age has. It just seems so mid 20s. To make myself feel better in the face of certain adulthood, and to compensate for the fact that I'll be spending my first birthday ever far away from my very best friends and family, I've decided to buy myself a little present. Melbourne's got me feeling very wanty, so my short list is rather long.

Short Stop being a bad ass jammer

As you probably know, I entered into the wonderful world of roller derby about six months ago. I adore it. It really is the greatest sport ever. Anyway, it was rolling along smashingly (heh, see what I did there?) until I twisted my ankle, put my skates back on too early and then dislocated my shoulder. Now I'm off skates for an unspecified amount of time, which unless you are also a derby all star, you can have no idea of the depression that I am currently experiencing.

Tuesday is a big training night in the world of Canberra Roller Derby League, so I thought it might be a good time to share with you some pretty pictures by an awesome lady, who I have a huge style crush on.

Posie La Threat, aka Beata English, aka Beez Images and Designs, took some amazing shots of Canberra's rep team Vice City Rollers this last weekend at the East Coast Smack Down. Go to her site and have a look. She's very talented and her blog is delightful. She specialises in child photography, and my goodness, she has captured some glorious little people.

Yep, you may have noticed that there is no Mad Crush Monday this week. That's because I've taken up podophilla.

Oh yes, bitch bought her self a pair of Melissa shoes by Vivienne Westwood!

Not really. But my new shoes are prettier than all my Mad Crush Monday potential candidates combined.

Sorry boys, this week you don't even come close.

Recently I went to Melbourne on a research trip (yes, it's true. I am very busy and important) for my delightful thesis. I've probably mentioned this too many times, but its all about street art in Melbourne. So naturally I had to take loads of photos and look like a tourist tard. Man, honours is HARD.

Dearest Prince Charming,

I've been thinking. Roses are really great and all that, but I'm pretty tops and when the time comes for you to woo me, I think I'm going to need something more than a few dead flowers. Don't get me wrong, I'm still expecting a dozen red roses on our first date (minimum), but when you're starting to wonder what you need to do to lasso this wild heart of mine consider this... Not just a bunch of roses, but an entire rose garden!!!

I found out today that you can sponsor a rose in the Old Parliament House Gardens. You get a plaque with a dedication and everything. Maybe you should check out this site for more information. I believe it would be acceptably romantic to propose to me next to my rose bush.

I do hope that you take this advice into consideration.
