Invading your space

Robert Sim, You Walk Funny, 2003, stencil

Space Invaders in hitting the National Gallery of Australia this weekend millionaires, get excited! I sure am. Space Invaders is an exhibition of Australian street art including stencils, posters, paste-ups, stickers and zines drawn entirely from the NGA's collection and is an unprecedented exhibition from a large cultural institution in Australia.

The exhibition will be focusing on the transition street artists have made from the street to the gallery space and from the "ephemeral to the collectable".

Now I might be looking forward to this more than most, as I have spent the last year studying Melbourne street art, but I know I am definitely not the only one who loves it. So I encourage everyone who can to go and have a squiz. Whatever your opinion of street art in the gallery space, this should be an interesting and unique exhibition.

Lister, Mr Sinister, 2010

To celebrate the opening of he exhibition this Saturday, the street artists are taking over the gallery with a bunch of activities. Including the Capital Letters zine fair run by Sticky Institute, the Everfresh crew creating an installation as well as artist talks and a book signing. More info here.

Lastly, as if you need more to get you excited about this weekend, anyone and everyone is welcome to the opening night celebrations (for the cost of $50, so maybe NOT everyone) on Friday 29th October.

See you there, art lovers.

Mad Crush Monday: Meat Loaf (would do anything for love)

Ha ha, Meat Loaf, not meat loaf.

Girl:
Will you raise me up?
Will you help me down?
Will you get me right out if this Godforsaken town?
Will you make it all a little less cold?

Boy:
I can do that!
I can do that!

Girl:
Will you hold me sacred?
Will you hold me tight?
Can you colorize my life I'm so sick of black and white?
Can you make it all a little less old?

Boy:
I can do that!
I can do that!

Girl:
Will you make me some magic
With your own two hands?
Can you build an emerald city with these grains of sand?
Can you give me something I can take home?

Boy:
I can do that!
I can do that!

Girl:
Will you cater to every fantasy I got?
Will ya hose me down with holy water--if I get to hot--?
Will ya take me to places I've never known?

Boy:
I can do that!
I can do that!

Girl:
After a while you'll forget everything
It was a brief interlude
And a midsummer night's fling
And you'll see that it's time to move on

Boy:
I won't do that!
I won't do that!

I would do anything for love, but I (probably) won't tap that.

Meat Loaf would do anything for love. He'd run right into hell and back, he would do anything for love. He'd never lie to me and that's a fact.

Ergo, Meat Loaf wins this week's MAD CRUSH MONDAY!

SANS THESIS

Figure A

So, you may have noticed a distinct lack of posts over the last few weeks. This may have a little something to do with the fact that... I'VE FINISHED UNI!!!!! (again). Which of course means I no longer have a need to procrastinate.

To everyone who thought I couldn't complete fourth year for whatever reason, ha, fuck you. Please refer to figure A.

Mad Crush Monday returns tomorrow. Get excited.

Love, joy and all things that go with life sans thesis,

Jaimie.
